Vision Correction Self-Test
Wondering whether LASIK or another vision-correction option may fit your eyes and lifestyle? Answer four brief questions to learn what may be worth exploring.
This self-test is for educational purposes only and cannot establish candidacy for LASIK or any vision-correction procedure. Only a comprehensive eye examination can determine which options, if any, are appropriate for you.
Vision Correction Self-Test Frequently Asked Questions
Is this self-test a substitute for a consultation?
No. This self-test is designed to help you assess whether vision correction may be worth exploring and to give you a starting point for your thinking. Only a comprehensive refractive evaluation by a qualified surgeon can determine your actual candidacy and identify the most appropriate procedure for your individual eyes.
What if I have been told I am not a candidate for LASIK?
Being told you are not a candidate for LASIK does not mean vision correction is out of reach. Patients who do not qualify for LASIK may be excellent candidates for PRK, the EVO ICL, or custom lens replacement. Princeton Eye Group offers every major vision correction modality, and our surgeons will identify the option best suited to your eyes during your complimentary consultation.
How do I know which vision correction procedure is right for me?
The best procedure for you depends on your prescription, corneal thickness, health, age, lifestyle, and visual goals. A comprehensive refractive evaluation at Princeton Eye Group—including advanced corneal mapping, biometry, and a detailed conversation with your surgeon—will identify the most appropriate option for your individual situation.
What is the minimum age for vision correction surgery?
Most vision correction procedures require patients to be at least 21 years of age, with a prescription that has been stable for at least one to two years. Some procedures have different age recommendations; your surgeon will advise based on the specific procedure being considered and your individual circumstances.
Can vision correction surgery be performed on both eyes at the same time?
For laser vision correction procedures such as LASIK and PRK, both eyes are typically treated on the same day. This is also typically the case for the EVO ICL procedure. For custom lens replacement, surgery is generally performed on one eye at a time, with the second eye scheduled one to two weeks later.
Does insurance cover vision correction procedures?
Elective vision correction procedures, including LASIK, PRK, EVO ICL, and custom lens replacement, are not covered by most medical insurance plans. FSA and HSA funds are generally accepted, and financing options are available. Our team can discuss all costs and payment options during your complimentary consultation.
How long does a vision correction consultation take?
A comprehensive refractive evaluation at Princeton Eye Group typically takes one to two hours, as it includes detailed corneal mapping, biometry, a dilated eye examination, and a thorough conversation with your surgeon about your options and goals. Contact lens wearers should discontinue lens wear for a specified period before their consultation. Our team will advise on the appropriate duration when you schedule.
