Dr. Michael Y. Wong is one of the founding physicians of Princeton Eye Group and a nationally recognized innovator in cataract and refractive surgery, with a career spanning more than four decades of clinical excellence and humanitarian service.
Innovations and Contributions to the Field
Because of his seminal work in cataract and laser surgery, Dr. Wong was accorded the Innovator's Award by the New Jersey Inventors Hall of Fame, an honor drawn from all fields that recognizes only four scientists each year. Dr. Wong is the first clinical physician to be honored in this manner. His innovation, colloquially known as the "Wong Way," has achieved international recognition for making cataract surgery safer. His research has placed him at the forefront of developing advanced technology intraocular lenses, including the ReSTOR (predecessor of the PanOptix Pro) IOL for age-related near vision loss and the toric IOL for astigmatism.
He is one of only eight mentors nationwide tasked with setting standards of care and teaching other eye surgeons the nuances of this technology. Dr. Wong also pioneered LASIK surgery in New Jersey and, as part of the Refractive Leadership Council, serves on an invited panel of 30 leading surgeons worldwide analyzing revolutionary LASIK technology and advancing the state of the art.
