Cornea Cataract and Refractive Surgery Expertise

Dr. Anita I. Miedziak is a board-certified ophthalmologist and fellowship-trained cornea and refractive surgeon who has cared for patients in Central New Jersey since 1999. She specializes in corneal disease, cataract surgery, refractive surgery, and complex anterior-segment reconstruction.

As Managing Partner and Director of Cornea and Contact Lens Services at Princeton Eye Group, Dr. Miedziak treats the full spectrum of corneal and anterior-segment conditions, from common problems affecting vision and ocular comfort to complex cases involving the cornea, iris, or an implanted lens. She also serves as Co-Director of Refractive Surgery at the Wills Laser Vision Center in Princeton.

Comprehensive Cornea and Vision Correction Care

Dr. Miedziak’s surgical practice includes cataract surgery, LASIK and other refractive procedures, corneal transplantation, and reconstruction of the anterior segment of the eye. Her experience allows her to evaluate how the cornea, natural or implanted lens, ocular surface, and overall health of the eye work together when developing a treatment plan.

This comprehensive perspective is especially important for patients with previous eye surgery, corneal abnormalities, irregular astigmatism, or multiple conditions that may affect the outcome of cataract or refractive surgery.

An Individualized Approach to Surgery

Dr. Miedziak develops each surgical plan around the health and anatomy of the patient’s eyes, visual priorities, occupation, daily activities, and expectations. She takes particular care to explain the available options, their limitations, and the anticipated recovery so that patients can make informed decisions about their care.

Her goal is to recommend the procedure, or nonsurgical approach, that offers the most appropriate balance of safety, visual quality, and long-term benefit for each patient.

Advanced Fellowship Training

Dr. Miedziak earned her medical degree from the Medical College of Pennsylvania and completed her ophthalmology residency at Wills Eye Hospital. She subsequently held the Henry and Corinne Bower Research Fellowship at Wills Eye and completed fellowship training in cornea and anterior-segment surgery at the Wilmer Eye Institute of Johns Hopkins.

She further advanced her training through a fellowship in refractive surgery at the internationally recognized Barraquer Institute in Bogotá, Colombia.

Research Teaching and Professional Leadership

Throughout her career, Dr. Miedziak has contributed to clinical research involving corneal cross-linking, cataract-incision closure, phakic and multifocal intraocular lenses, and other ophthalmic technologies. Her published work has addressed corneal infection, corneal-transplant rejection, ocular surface injury, and complications involving intraocular lenses.

From 1999 through 2004, she taught on the Cornea Service at Wills Eye Hospital, where she supervised residents in corneal surgery, staffed the resident cornea clinic, and lectured on cornea and external disease. She remains affiliated with the Wills Eye Hospital Cornea Service as courtesy staff.

Dr. Miedziak also serves the ophthalmology profession through the New Jersey Academy of Ophthalmology. She was the organization’s Treasurer in 2025 and Vice President in 2026.

Service Beyond the Practice

In March 2025, Dr. Miedziak volunteered as an ophthalmic surgeon with SEE International in Belize, working in collaboration with the Belize Council for the Visually Impaired. She provided surgical and perioperative care to patients with limited access to ophthalmic services.

During her fellowship years, she also supported international ophthalmic missions as a Polish-language medical translator, translating medical records, surgical consent forms, and patient-education materials.

Languages: English, Polish, and Russian.
