Daniel Lee, MD

Dr. Daniel Lee is a board-certified, fellowship-trained glaucoma specialist and complex cataract surgeon at Princeton Eye Group. His clinical practice focuses on the medical, laser, and surgical treatment of glaucoma and cataracts, including minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS) and traditional glaucoma surgery.

Education and Training

A New Jersey native, Dr. Lee graduated from Boston College with a degree in Honors Biology and earned his medical degree from Robert Wood Johnson Medical School. He completed his ophthalmology residency at Yale University and fellowship training in glaucoma at Wills Eye Hospital.

Clinical Focus

Dr. Lee specializes in the management of glaucoma across the spectrum of disease, from early and moderate glaucoma to complex and advanced cases. Treatment is individualized and may include medical therapy, laser procedures, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), or traditional glaucoma surgery when appropriate. He also performs cataract surgery, including complex cataract surgery and combined cataract and glaucoma procedures.

His academic background and research in surgical outcomes inform an approach centered on selecting the treatment that best balances effectiveness, safety, and the individual needs of each patient. An educator at heart, Dr. Lee has a particular interest in medical and surgical decision-making and in the prevention and management of surgical complications.

Academic and Research Career

Following his glaucoma fellowship, Dr. Lee joined the Glaucoma Service at Wills Eye Hospital, where he served on the faculty and later as Director of the Glaucoma Research Center. He also served as Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. During his academic career, Dr. Lee trained medical students, ophthalmology residents, and glaucoma fellows and participated in clinical research investigating new glaucoma therapies, surgical techniques, and diagnostic technologies.

He has authored or co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications, scientific abstracts, textbook chapters, and educational articles. Although now in private practice, Dr. Lee remains actively involved in ophthalmic education. He continues to teach through Wills Eye Hospital and is regularly invited to teach and lecture at national and international ophthalmology meetings. Dr. Lee's primary language is English; he is also proficient in Spanish and Korean.

Dr. Lee's academic work has examined glaucoma surgery, minimally invasive glaucoma surgery (MIGS), selective laser trabeculoplasty, glaucoma drainage implants, glaucoma medications, surgical complications, aqueous outflow, and long-term treatment outcomes.

He has contributed chapters and educational material to major ophthalmology textbooks and clinical references. He previously served as Co-Editor of the Glaucoma Section of the Yearbook of Ophthalmology and has served as a peer reviewer for numerous ophthalmology journals.
